My kids' schools are Cottonwood Elementary, Olympus Junior, and Olympus High.
Schools I attended: Woodstock Elementary, Oakwood Elementary, Cottonwood Elementary, Bonneville Junior High, Olympus Junior High, and Olympus High
8 years at Horizonte Instruction & Training Center (the alternative high school in Salt Lake School District.) I taught English, Technology and School Success to kids who'd been unsuccessful at East, West or Highland High. I also taught English to adult immigrants and refugees at night. I love my students. We taught each other.
Elma is a small district of only 3 schools! While I was on the board, we expanded our Early Childhood learning programs, created an advisory program, funded strategies to help lower achieving students, and ran a bond. My favorite part was to watch how our community came together around schools.
I've been on lots of PTA boards and have been the President too, but I've put in most of my work as a supporter. I've been in charge of or helped with Science Fairs, Donuts with Dads, SEOP dinners, the Art Stroll, Junior Achievement, book fairs, Reflections, awards, newsletters, Week of Connection, copy center, eye screenings, 5Ks, legislative activities, Reality Towns, stomps, field trips, fundraising, lunchtime activities, countless classroom and school-wide parties. Oh, and I accompanied our school choir on piano. My favorite thing I do in PTA is volunteer in classrooms to help one on one with reading or math.
Olympus Junior High for four years and Olympus High for one. As such, I have been able to help with the Olympus Reconfiguration effort and have also been right in the middle of the Proficiency Based Learning implementation.
4 years. I loved representing the needs of the Olympus Network and learning about what is going on in other networks district wide.
I ran the Elma Co-op Preschool in Washington State. We had about 20 families working together to help our little ones get a strong foothold!
I'm currently finishing up my MBA. I love school. I love being a teacher and I love being a student. Go figure?
